Hey everyone, let's talk about the current state of the website and some projects.
I have finally come up with a logo for this website and general things not tied to any specific one of my projects. It's currently just built out of assets i found online, so it has a few inconsistencies and design flaws that will eventually be worked on and tweaked, but the general idea will stay the same. Here it is, along with a more compact and lower detail version:
I currently use the low detail version as a favicon, as well as a slightly edited version as a cursor. I'm not sure about custom cursors yet, as i feel like they could bother people/ cause accessibility issues. I thought about adding a button that lets you disable it, but I think you'd have to hit it everytime you change/refresh pages. I'd be interested to know what you people think.
The main version sits on top of the main page where clippy used to, and links to the Updates page. I considered making the eye follow the cursor, but i'd like to avoid using javascript for this website. I'll probably make it change colors when hovering to show it's clickable. You'll probably see it in many other places in the future.
The idea behind the logo is to represent concepts that tie into my "view of the bigger picture" i suppose you could say. The chaos symbol represents the universe and its entropy surrounding us, in direct opposition to the eye inside of it, representing a human. Within the eye, the inner arrows make for an inverted chaos symbol, representing ego and sense of self in relation (and opposition) to the rest of the universe. The human lies at the center of a loop, representative of cycles of its own perception (pattern recognition) that let it navigate the inherent chaos of the world.
When I rework the logo, i'd like to improve the "inverted chaos" by giving it all 8 of it's branches rather than 4. The loop could also use some work. I'd also like to find a spot to represent the reward system in here, as maybe some type of yin yang symbol, but it might be too much. I'll have to see.
I've been working with some knowledgeable people on some new pages for the useful resources page. This is probably going to be a long time before we show the final results, but expect more pages there with more varied topics!
I've also been looking into repurposing my old PS3. I plan to make it into a tiny low power linux server, from where i hope to be able to get WhatComesDownMustGoUp and Archive2_ running once again. It's probably going to be somewhat complicated, I'm in fact already stuck at the replacing the hard drive part because i do not have an original controller, which i need to be able to get the console to reinstall itself on there. And once that's done, if the console isnt bricked or some shit like that, I'll still have to figure out how to run linux on it, which i don't expect to be easy. If i manage that but we somehow can't get the archives to run, i could maybe use it to self-host the website. Hell, even if they do work. I'll cross that bridge when i get to it.
Do you browse this site a pc with a smaller screen? On your phone even? Did you notice it's actually usable now? Yep, I finally figured out how to easily make it responsive. And by "i" i mean that a friend helped me, like, a lot. Thank you, you know who you are.
Well, I think this is it for this one. What do you think of the logo? Do you have any topics you'd like to see resources for in useful resources? Suggestions for the website? A device where it's still unusable? You can comment here or contact me using the Learn More/Contact page. I kinda considered creating my own Discord server, I haven't ran one in very long, but i don't think that many people would join.
Anyhow; thanks for reading until the end. Until next time!
